Trailer for Exposed Last Writes
Injustice through corruption comes in many forms. Some corruption can be seen, while in many cases, the average citizen of our great country has no idea it is even happening. I certainly didn't! When this project was brought to me by Richard and Andrea Burns, I sat in amazement as the story was offered. I doubted. Yet, in our second meeting, when the photos, documents, letters and emails were shown to me, I realized this was in fact true and real people were in pain.
Exposed: Last Writes is a documentary dealing with an unfortunate subject known or thought about by very few. The coroner and medical examiner offices across America are understaffed, under unfair influences and in many cases, unqualified individuals (elected or appointed) are in charge. In some cases, the families of loved ones have had the TRUTH hidden from them. This is understandably emotional and unfortunate and simply wrong and inhumane. The greatest irony is that sometimes, the 'system' covers each other while in other cases, the 'system' decides what should or should not be told. This is not a race issue because cover-up and corruption do not discriminate. This is a human rights issue and arguably a Constitutional issue. The system is flawed and attention must be brought to this subject matter as difficult as it is to speak about or deal with.
On a human level, this has become very personal and emotional as I have seen first-hand the pain and suffering that families and individuals have endured simply because the TRUTH was never revealed. This pain is real and cannot be dismissed because of money or inconvenience.
My hope is that this documentary will shed abundant light on the injustice that occurs within the coroner and medical examiner systems across this country. Most of all, I pray it will bring peace to the families and individuals who have suffered greatly.
I thank all the brave persons who came forward to tell this story. - Nicholas J. Furris, Producer/Director
